What is the difference between external and internal pile capacity?
External capacity describes how much load the ground takes through shaft friction and base resistance. Internal capacity checks whether the pile itself, concrete and reinforcement, can carry that load.
What input does a soil profile require?
As a minimum you need the borehole location, the layering, soil types, friction angle φ, cohesion cu, unit weight γ or γ' and, where relevant, qc values.
What does “base bearing allowed” mean for a soil layer?
The option decides whether a pile may terminate in that layer. It matters for optimising the pile length.
How does automatic design to EA-Pfähle or DIN 1054 work?
Depending on the code you select, the software draws on the matching tables in the background and applies friction and end bearing values correctly on its own.
How is the permissible settlement taken into account?
You can set a maximum settlement for the project, 5 mm for example. The software then checks whether a pile carries the load at that settlement.
How does piledesigner.io handle differing soil profiles between two boreholes?
By default the profiles you entered are used. A kriging based interpolation for a closer estimate in between is planned.
What does Rd mean in the verification?
Rd is the design resistance of the pile. It is the sum of shaft friction and base resistance divided by a safety factor.
What is the difference between Ek and Ed?
Ek is the characteristic, that is the real, load. Ed is the design load including the safety factor and is what the capacity verification uses.
Can I design several piles at one load point?
Yes. You set the number, diameter and spacing of the piles per load point, and the software calculates load distribution, resistance and settlement.
What is a verification group for?
Verification groups combine load points that are to be designed identically or similarly, for instance where ground conditions repeat.
